Success across the board for A&F

By Farnham Herald in Hockey

AFTER three promotions across the Aldershot & Farnham Hockey Club men’s section in 2015/16, this season was all about consolidation.

With an influx of new players and juniors coming through the ranks, A&F added an extra side, making it six men’s teams competing in the Hampshire League.

Apart from consolidation, which was duly achieved, the objective was also for the 1st XI to win promotion. So the club achieved their targets, well in advance of the end of the season.

A&F have managed to field all six teams when required, even when 38 players were unavailable one week. This showed the men’s section has the strength in depth to cope with six teams and the club aim to push on next season.

Aldershot & Farnham Ladies go head-to-head with Haslemere at Woolmer hill this Saturday in the battle to win the Hampshire Women’s League and gain certain promotion to the South League.

A&F’s other four ladies’ teams have already completed successful seasons, with the 2nd XI (Hants 3) and 4th XI (Hants 6) both promoted as champions.

The 2nd XI clinched promotion by early February and, remarkably, completed the only 100 per cent winning record across Hampshire – 22 games, 22 wins.

A&F 4th XI were a transformed side, compared with previous years. A side that only notched up their first win halfway through last season has this year been turned into an unbeatable outfit, winning 17 out of 20 matches and drawing the other three.

Lastly, a mention for the development ladies’ side. With a mix of youngsters, returning players and those new to the game, this team have won seven out of 11 games and have finished second in the Hampshire Development League.

The club will be looking to field a new 5th XI to accommodate this growing player base.
