FRENSHAM Pond Sailing Club member Ross Thompson won gold at the RYA Youth National Championships at Hayling Island on Good Friday.
After five days of tough racing at the 2017 RYA Youth Nationals, the champions were crowned across 12 classes on the final day.
The 379 sailors were tested by a range of conditions on the Hayling water and there were outstanding performances in all classes.
Some championships were won with a race, or even a day, to spare, while others went down to the wire.
Alex Smallwood (Datchet Water SC) and Ross Thompson (Frensham Pond SC) were the runaway winners of the 420 Class (double-handed dinghy), dominating the fleet from the outset and securing gold with a day to spare.
Thompson, 17, from Thursley, who is sponsored by Sport Haslemere and MPI Brokers Travel, Ski and Sail Insurance, said: “I enjoyed the mix of conditions and the one really windy day, which was good fun. It made for some good competition.”
