A Haslemere u3a member will take audiences from South Africa to the Himalayas as he recounts a lifetime of mountaineering adventures.

Retired research scientist Ian Bailey will deliver his illustrated talk, My High Life, at Haslemere Hall at 2pm on Monday, September 14.

Mr Bailey spent 30 years working in South Africa before retiring to Haslemere, where his father was once the town’s mayor.

His talk will chart his experiences in the Drakensberg mountains, which are around three times higher than Britain’s highest peaks, before moving on to expeditions in China, Pakistan and India.

He will also share stories of ascents in North and South America and Africa, covering the successes, hardships and disappointments encountered along the way.

Non-members are welcome and the talk is free to attend.
