There’s a chance to have some shared fun on Mother’s Day this year at Petersfield Musical Festival’s family concert.

The theme is Dance through the ages and features an exploration of the musical form from Tudor Pavanes to the modern tango.

What better way to celebrate Mum’s special day on Sunday?

South Downs Camerata, under the direction of Sara Deborah Timossi, will showcase a number of popular dance tunes, including King Henry VIII’s Pavane, a minuet by Boccherini and Tchaikovsky’s famous Waltz from his Serenade for Strings.

There will be an opportunity for audience participation, involving body percussion and singing. Dancing will be provided by Petersfield Academy of Dance.

Later in the week, GSA, a cohort of second year students at the Guildford School of Acting at the University of Surrey, perform a celebration of the great musicals of the last century.

Called How Lucky Can you Get, the programme pays homage to popular composers ranging from Gilbert and Sullivan and Rogers and Hammerstein to Stephen Sondheim.

The fully-staged show will incorporate dance styles that pay tribute to modern choreographers and ranges will range from opera, blues and jazz to pop. The concert is next Friday (March 24).
