Uncertainty surrounds the future of Farnham Post Office after the premises it shares with TG Jones were put up for let.

The property at 14 The Borough, on Farnham’s principal shopping street, is being marketed with a new 10-year lease, subject to vacant possession.

However, neither TG Jones nor the Post Office has confirmed that the Farnham branch will close. The Post Office says it remains open as usual.

The listing quotes an annual rent of £125,000 and advertises between 448 sq ft and 7,250 sq ft of retail space. The proposed lease includes a rent review after five years, with the tenant responsible for repairs and insurance.

The Post Office said it had not received notice from TG Jones to end its operation of the Farnham branch.

A spokesperson said: “Farnham Post Office is open as usual. We have not received a resignation from TG Jones, which operates the branch, and customers should continue to visit the branch as usual to access our banking and parcel services.”

The move comes amid uncertainty over the future of TG Jones stores and follows confirmation last week that its Alton shop will close.

A TG Jones spokesperson said: “As we work to secure the long-term future of TG Jones, we have confirmed that our Alton shop will close.

“We know this will be disappointing news for our colleagues, customers and the local community. Our focus now is on supporting those affected and continuing to serve customers throughout the closure period.”
