The class of 2025/26 did themselves proud as a secondary school in Bordon has become one of the most improved in the county, region and England.
Oakmoor headteacher Nigel Wright has hailed a “significant step forward” for his school following the release of Attainment 8 scores by the Department for Education early this month.
The score is a Key Stage 4 performance measure that tracks the average achievement of pupils across eight GCSE-level qualifications.
And the jump made by Oakmoor students during this summer’s examinations was “exceptional” with the score increasing by 5.5 points to 44.2.
The leap was the second-biggest in Hampshire while the increased percentage of students achieving Grade 5 in both English and Maths – called Basics 5 – was also the third-highest in the county.
Oakmoor was just one of four schools out of 490 in the South East to achieve such improvements, placing it in the top one per cent regionally and top two in Hampshire.
And the picture is just as impressive nationally, as only 55 out of 3,232 comparable state-funded secondary schools in England notched up 5.5 points in improvements and a 13 per cent rise in Basics 5.
“These results are a tremendous achievement for our students, staff and the whole Oakmoor community,” said a delighted headteacher, Nigel Wright, before insisting the improvements are “just the beginning”.
“To see the improvement placed in the context of schools across Hampshire, the South East and the whole country is particularly rewarding.
“This is not simply about a single headline figure. It reflects the hard work of our students, the dedication of our staff and the increasingly strong culture of ambition, determination and excellence across the school.”
“We are immensely proud of how far Oakmoor has come, but we are equally ambitious about what comes next.”
