A man has denied breaking two of his father's ribs during an alleged assault at his Upper Hale home following a row over a broken electric scooter charger.

Rodney Cole, 45, of Greenfinch Road, Didcot, Oxfordshire, pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm against his father, Paul Cole, at Guildford Magistrates' Court on Wednesday (October 14).

The prosecution alleged that Rodney had visited his father's home in Lyall Place, Upper Hale, Farnham, at around 1.15pm on December 8 last year to collect a letter.

He then asked to take an electric scooter from his father's shed, but discovered that its charger was broken, the court heard.

Prosecutors claimed Rodney initially accused his father of breaking the charger before turning his suspicions towards his brother, Terry Cole, whom he allegedly threatened to kill.

When Paul put out an arm to stop his son, Rodney allegedly pushed him into the corner of the shed, fracturing two ribs on his left side, before punching him in the stomach.

The prosecution alleged that Rodney then forced his father to the ground and punched and kicked him in the face, leaving him with a bloody nose and blood running down his face.

Paul attempted to film the alleged assault, but Rodney took his phone and threw it onto the grass, the court heard.

The defence indicated that the allegations would be disputed.

The case was adjourned for a plea and trial preparation hearing at Guildford Crown Court on November 16 at 10am.

Rodney Cole was granted bail on condition that he does not contact his father or visit his home.
