WEST Sussex’s online journey planner is growing in popularity.
The Travel West Sussex website calculates routes for journeys by car, bus, rail, bike and foot using the latest real-time public transport information.
Since it was launched in April, over 6,500 people have started using the website, say the county council.
The planner tells you: how long your journey will take; the calories you will burn travelling; carbon emissions you will produce; and which different combinations of transport are available to you.
If your start point is within cycling distance of a train station the website will automatically plan a combined journey to consider.
It also suggests potential car share matches you can make and the location of car club sites in the area.
The journey planner can be edited by anyone – as in the popular website for information, Wikipedia.
Map information is being updated and improved all the time, says the council.
Organisations in West Sussex can also add “widgets” to their internet or intranet pages if they wish.
County council cabinet member for highways and transport, John O’Brien said: “The Travel West Sussex website is the place to go if you want to plan a journey that combines bike with train, or bike with bus.
“Congestion costs the local economy millions every year.
“Any initiative which tempts people out of theirs cars and into using alternative transport is something we support and the website does that.”
