Its head of community support Kathy Dry dropped in when the club minibus collected clients for a shopping trip, last Friday.
Announcing the changeover, Sue Zirps, chief executive of Age UK Surrey, said: “This is a very positive move for residents of Haslemere and we are very pleased to continue to provide the support and activities The Orchard Club did under the name of Age UK Surrey.”
Councillor Jenny Else, Waverley’s portfolio holder for health, well-being and culture, said: “The Orchard Club’s activities have been a real lifeline to some of Haslemere’s residents.
“We have worked with Age UK Surrey and The Orchard Club to make sure there is a smooth transfer and service users are supported. Age UK Surrey already do wonderful work across the county to support older people. I am excited for them to take a leading role in providing these in Haslemere too,” she aded.
Three years ago the club was embroiled in a row over charges levied at its former base at Haslewey, and just a year ago, the club left its old home in Wey Hill after 13 years. It is now based at the borough council’s locality office, also in Wey Hill.
