A train service between Petersfield and London was one of the ten most overcrowded in the UK last autumn.

Figures released by the Department for Transport show that one Portsmouth Harbour to London Waterloo service reached 149 per cent capacity at 8.27am.

The figures were based on passenger counts taken on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between September and December 2025, and represent travel on a typical autumn weekday.

Fourth on the list is the Alton to Waterloo service which reached with a peak of 159 per cent at 8.22am.

And four of the most ‘jam-packed’ pass through Woking, with South Western services from Fareham to Waterloo and the latter to Basingstoke third and sixth on the list, respectively.
