A former egg farm near Elstead could soon have some very different residents, with plans for nine new homes and a commercial building.

The proposal at Hookley Lane, south of Elstead, would see all existing agricultural and commercial buildings demolished and replaced with nine detached houses, garages and car ports, plus a new two-storey office building.

The site already has permission for a similar scheme, with the latest application seeking changes to the layout and design rather than increasing the number of homes.

Plans say the revised arrangement would create more space between buildings and improve the site's openness, while using a more traditional rural Surrey style.

But the Surrey Hills National Landscape Board has raised an eyebrow over the affordable housing position, describing it as “highly surprising and questionable” that any affordable housing or financial contribution would be viable under the new planning rules.
