Winter may be coming but poppies have been popping up around Haslemere and its surrounding villages.
This year’s Poppy Appeal is well underway with the Royal British Legion holding collections at the likes of Tesco, Waitrose, the station and Lion Green M&S.
Poppies have also appeared on lampposts around the area ahead of Remembrance Sunday with details for this service being confirmed by the town council.
He parade will leave St Bartholomew’s Church at 10.30am for the War Memorial on the High Street with a Service of Remembrance taking place at 10.55am.
Liphook in Bloom has also joined forces with the village’s Royal British Legion to place two soldier silhouettes and a poppy display on the Millennium Bed on Midhurst Road.
Poppies have also been attached to lampposts, continuing a tradition started 15 years ago when Terry Burns was given some spares by colleagues in Haslemere.

“It’s important to support people who are still living with injuries,” said Bob Hall.
“Many struggle to cope especially with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and the money raised through the poppy appeal helps them get on with their lives.”
Alasdair Cameron, Liphook and Bramshott Poppy Appeal Co-ordinator, added, “Combat injuries and the pain of losing a loved one can last a lifetime.
“The Royal British Legion aims to be there every step, of every day, to support veterans and their families, who have given so much.”
St. Mary’s Church in Bramshott has its own tribute laid out by Alan Clare. A spokesperson said: “To us, as ex-service personnel, it is important to do this to remember the fallen of conflicts across the decades, and also to help former service personnel and their families.”
The remembrance window can be viewed during church opening hours and is a beautiful place to take a moment to reflect.
