HASLEMERE Mayor David Round was special guest at the annual general meeting of a charity celebrating its 40th year of service to the town.

Care in Haslemere president and founder Mary Holthouse, chairman Dr Grahame Randall and committee members met in Haslemere Methodist Church Hall.

The Good Neighbour scheme provides transport for people in need living in and around Haslemere, who are unable to get to hospital and clinic appointments.

Volunteer drivers use their own cars, and provide a very personal service taking people to their appointments, often waiting with them, and then returning them to their homes.

Drivers are asked to give just a few hours of their time, time which is given freely, but never leaving them out of pocket. Care volunteers can claim 45p per mile for any journey.

•More volunteers are welcomed. Call the office on 01428 652505 or send a message from the contact page at www.careinhaslemere.org.uk if you can give up some time to help the group
