Haslemere u3a’s September speaker will take members and visitors on a journey to some of the world’s highest mountains.
Ian Bailey, a retired quality research scientist and Haslemere u3a member, will give his illustrated talk, “My High Life”, at Haslemere Hall at 2pm on Monday, September 14.
Ian spent 30 years working in South Africa before retiring to Haslemere, where his father was once the town’s mayor. His talk will explore his lifelong passion for mountaineering, from the Drakensberg mountains in South Africa to expeditions in the Chinese, Pakistani and Indian Himalayas.
He will also recount ascents of peaks in North and South America and Africa, including the challenges, hardships, successes and disappointments.
Tea and coffee will follow. Non-members are welcome to attend free as a trial visit.
