FERNHURST Primary School organised a day for Ukrainian families to attend with their children and host families.

The purpose of the day was to give Ukranian families and their hosts the chance to socialise and network, while the children could experience a range of activities with youngsters in their first language.

The children enjoyed bushcraft activities led by Forest School teacher Hannah Corps, as well as a range of sporting events.

Headteacher Jennifer Thornton said: “This is a small thing we could do to help these children and adults come together and enjoy socialising in their first language.

“They were all able to play and to network – it is important we make sure everybody has the support they need.

“We teach our children to support others and it is vital we model this in our everyday lives. Together, we can make a difference.”

The school plans to arrange another event.
