WITLEY Neighbourhood Plan – the blueprint for future development shaped by residents of Brook, Witley and Milford – has been submitted to Waverley Borough Council prior to a final public consultation.

Where to build the 480 new homes by 2032 required by Waverley’s Local Plan has been a key consideration in drawing up the document.

Planning permission for more than half the houses needed has already been granted, with sites for a further 200 still to be found.

Witley Parish Council chairman Gillian McCalden said: “Our priority is to ensure that new developments are the right mix of housing, in an appropriate place and, most importantly, with adequate infrastructure to support the growing number of residents.”

The parish council and neighbourhood plan steering group agreed Waverley should allocate suitable sites for the remaining 200 houses in its Local Plan Part 2. The settlement boundary will have to be extended into the green belt to accommodate them.

In Local Plan Part 1, Waverley identified four possible sites, including green belt land. Three are between the old A3/A283 and the A3 and its sliproad in Milford, and one is on land north of Wheeler Lane in Witley.

Witley Neighbourhood Plan flags up a fifth site on previously developed land at Secretts Farm in Milford, which could potentially accommodate all 200 houses.

It is backed by the parish council and steering group, and was voted as one of the preferred sites by the community in a previous survey.

Proposals have already been drawn up for the ‘enabling’ housing development that would also fund an expanded farm shop and continue the family business of growing speciality produce.
