SWAPPING spreadsheets for sponges, volunteers from the University of Surrey finance department did their bit to help raise funds for Milford’s Clockhouse community centre.

The team got stuck in to a number of tasks across the area, including working in a British Heart Foundation shop, painting services for the Greyhound Trust and groundworks at Farnham Park.

The university’s fifth annual Community Day, saw around 50 staff volunteering at five local charities, SeeAbility and The Meath.

At the Clockhouse, volunteers raised £189 with a carwash. The money will go towards buying equipment, running the minibus and maintenance costs.

Organiser Sarah Dent said: “Our volunteers all had a great day helping the community, and the charities enjoy the help we give with tasks like painting and gardening.

“We plan to run some fundraisers like bake sales throughout the next year, to raise a little extra for the charities we helped this year.”
