Farnham Sports Council have agreed a partnership arrangement with the Farnham Lions.

Incoming Lions president Graeme Main attended May’s sports council meeting, accompanied by long-serving Lions member Geoff Jeal.

Graeme starts his term of office on July 1.

He spoke enthusiastically about the influence that sport, especially football, has had on his own life.

Graeme said: “Sports clubs play a vital role in our community’s health and wellbeing, and they are run by volunteers who give up their time to provide so many fantastic sporting and social benefits.

“The Lions will naturally continue to support wider community projects but we are excited about the potential to raise the profile of the Farnham Lions while giving support to important local clubs, teams or individuals in a sporting context.”

Geoff stressed clubs can benefit, too, through monetary and resources support though formal funding applications for community sport.

Geoff said: “The Lions have noted the difference the sports council make in the community and we wish to support their on-going work through a partnership arrangement.”

David Gill, the chairman of Farnham Sports Council, said: “This is a timely and important venture for the sports council.

“We welcome the support and encouragement we’ve received from the Farnham Lions and we thank them.”
