Alton produced a solid performance to win 1-0 at Chipstead in the Combined Counties Premier Division South.
The Brewers nearly took the lead in the fifth minute when Hadif Darwysh’s cross from the left flashed across the six-yard box.
The only goal of the game came on 23 minutes, when a deep corner was headed back into the danger area and Joe Wotton reacted quickest to force the ball in at the back post.
The Brewers nearly doubled their advantage in the second half when David Garlinge’s volley forced an excellent save from Chipstead keeper Jacob Bennett.
Alton went close again from the resulting corner when Ed Dryden’s header hit the inside of the far post and bounced back into Bennett’s arms.
