Farnham Heath End School will defend its titles at The History Bee and Bowl of London this Saturday at Trinity School of John Whitgift in Croydon.
The school’s team of history buffs beat all-comers including Eton College last year in the Middle School category with pupil Hayden Burton taking the same award and Elementary Champion.
In a story surely deserving of a Hollywood blockbuster, they then went on to the History Bowl European Championships in Barcelona, where the team won an incredible bronze medal.
But the competition promises to be even tougher this year as Eton is looking for revenge with eight teams entering.
This year’s FHES team has three members from last year's winning team: team captain Amelie Read, reigning elementary and middle school History Bee champion Hayden Burton, and military history specialist Gethyn Jones.
They are joined by three new members: George Hurlow and Nathan Brown from Year 8, and one of the recent winners of the FHES interform competition Dan Pierce from Year 7.
As last year, FHES is the only state school sending a team, with other competitors coming from the exclusive Trinity School of John Whitgift, City of London School, City of London Freemen’s School, Eton College, Stowe School, Southbank International School, Sevenoaks School and King’s College School.
Can the Farnham history buffs again beat the odds and take down the public schools?
