As part of the weekly #ClapforCarers display of thanks, police, ambulance crews and firefighters gathered (incidents permitting) at each of Surrey’s acute hospitals to simultaneously flash their blue lights in a co-ordinated display to coincide with the #ClapforCarers at 8pm.
The event will take place every week and is being organised by local police, fire and ambulance officers with hospital staff to demonstrate the county’s unified approach to tackling the coronavirus pandemic.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Dan Quin said: “We wanted to make a statement of thanks to everyone involved in the fight against coronavirus across this county.
"Through Surrey’s Local Resilience Forum, partners have been working together in the most remarkable way to get things done to support our residents, and importantly our NHS colleagues and partners on the front-line.”
Temporary Assistant Chief Constable of Surrey Police, Alison Barlow, added: “We thought a weekly ‘Blue Light Serenade’ across the county would be a fantastic way to bring colleagues together to show our support to keyworkers across Surrey. A huge thanks to everyone involved in making this happen.”
The hospitals involved include St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey; Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford; Frimley Park Hospital, Camberley; East Surrey Hospital, Redhill; and Epsom Hospital.
