STAFF from a Surrey-based children’s hospice rushed to the aid of a victim of the stabbings in Hampton, last week.

Four women suffered knife injuries when they were attacked near the Sainsbury’s car park next to one of Shooting Star Chase’s two hospices at around 10.30am last Friday.

And Sandi Hillery, head of care at the children’s hospice charity, which serves the Haslemere area, revealed this week how staff came to the aid of one of the victims as the terrifying attack was still under way.

She said: “Members of staff from our nearby children’s hospice, Shooting Star House, heard some screams and rushed outside to see what was going on.

“The attack was still taking place in Sainsbury’s car park but we lead the woman onto our premises, before the nursing team administered emergency treatment.

“The staff also ushered members of the public who had witnessed the attacks behind the building’s security gates to prevent further attacks while the man was still in the area.”

Mrs Hillery also revealed the attack took place as bereaved families were at the hospice for a memory day – where parents and siblings return to the hospice to remember children who have died.

She added: “Staff and families connected to Shooting Star Chase are safe following the incident and our thoughts are with the victims of the attack after such a traumatic event.”

• A 66-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the attacks. All four women hurt in the attacks are said to be recovering and in a stable condition.
