RESIDENTS and green groups opposed to draft plans for 120 new homes on part of an old hospital site are dismayed the development has not been scaled back as a result of public opposition.
Waverley Borough Council (WBC) received more than 80 responses when it asked the public for its views on the future development of 29 acres of the original Milford Hospital site – declared surplus to requirements in 2000.
Council planners identified it as a major developed site suitable for housing. A planning document, which will be used as a framework for interested developers, was adopted by the borough council's executive committee at its last meeting.
But residents fear the impact of increased traffic on narrow roads surrounding the relatively isolated site, and how already "oversubscribed schools and GP surgeries" would cope with an influx of families.
