PLANS to build two cottages on a back plot in Hindhead have been dismissed on appeal.
Waverley planners rejected the application to build new homes on a garden and parking area behind Hampton Terrace, Beacon Hill Road, in March.
Their objection was upheld by the Planning Inspectorate, following a site visit in August.
“The provision of two additional dwellings would make a modest contribution towards meeting the borough’s housing needs, and their construction would provide some economic benefits from employment and the purchase of materials,” the report concluded.
“The subsequent payment of council tax would also have some small economic gain.
“However, the harm to the character and appearance of the area would not constitute good design, and the harm to the living conditions would fail to provide a good standard of amenity.
“The harm in respect of parking and highway safety adds to the adverse effects.”
