Pupils at Northchapel Primary School have been enjoying Book Week once again – and this year’s theme was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory author Roald Dahl.
Children and staff dressed up as characters from his books – which also include Matilda, The BFG, James and The Giant Peach, on Monday.
Headteacher Helen Coleman said: “It was lovely to see all the inventive costumes and we were amazed at how well the children knew the stories. During the week each class is using one or two of Roald Dahl’s books as inspiration for writing, drama, maths and design technology.
“We will be sharing stories in different classes, looking at the artwork of Quentin Blake, creating our own characters and developing wonderful new words based on the BFG.
“We also have a scholastic book fair in school all week, so children can buy some lovely new books to share at home, while raising funds to buy new books for the school.”
Special events this week include Sleepy Storytime, when children come back to school in their pyjamas for a bedtime story with their teachers, as well as Books For Breakfast, when children get into school early to have a pancake and then read together before going to class.
