WHEELCHAIR-bound Dan Eley, who carried the Olympic relay torch for Waverley, will be among the first tenants to take up residence in a new home which will meet his needs.
Dan, who previously lived in Witley, set up the Dan Eley Foundation in 2012, after an accident while working for a children’s charity in Colombia in 2010, left him paralysed from the waist down.
He is delighted now he will have his own home at last. “It’s really an uplifting and exciting moment to go in for the first time to see where I am going to live,” said Dan earlier this month, after being shown around his new home by former Mayor of Waverley, Mike Band.
“I have been waiting for three years and it’s great to know that I’ll be moving in six to eight weeks time.”
The flat in Station Road, Godalming, is fully accessible for wheelchair users with ramps, wider internal and external doors, a fully accessible bathroom and other adaptations.
The development of 14 new affordable homes is owned and managed by Waverley Borough Council.
