A FIVE-YEAR-OLD Grayshott Primary School pupil took on a triathlon last weekend to raise funds for research into children’s cancers.

Dexter Rees swam 20 lengths in the pool at Whitehill Leisure Centre last Friday (April 1), walked five miles at Virginia Water last Saturday (April 2), and cycled ten miles in Greatham last Sunday (April 3).

Proud mum Daisy said: “Dexter is really kind and wants to help other children be as happy as he is.

“It was Dexter’s first triathlon. He can ride a bike, but he hasn’t ridden ten miles often.”

Dexter did the triathlon in aid of MTV star and former professional footballer Ashley Cain’s charity the Azaylia Foundation – and was joined by Ashley himself for the cycle.

The charity was established last year after the death of Ashley and his former partner Safiyya’s daughter Azaylia aged eight months old from an aggressive form of myeloid leukaemia.

The foundation is helping to raise awareness of the early symptoms of leukaemia as well as helping other families who are fighting the disease.

It’s not Dexter’s first charity challenge. He previously walked a mile aged one for Save the Children, and raised money for Send a Cow with a cake sale aged three. He also went on a 5km cycle ride dressed as Santa for MIND, aged four.
