FOLLOWING outstanding A-level success the previous week week, students and staff at Midhurst Rother College were celebrating GCSE results which continue a trend of improvement.
The number of students who achieved a high number of A and A* grades was a highlight of this year’s results. They are Cora Dee (11); Jonty Kennedy (10); Alice Reed (nine); Rory Williams (nine) Honor Cave-Toye (seven); Polly Hodd (seven); Elizabeth Jelbert (seven); Ellen Jenner (seven); Bethany Procter (six); Gracie Spooner (six); Charlotte Hirst (five); Alice Jones (five) and Megan Walters (five).
In total, 63 per cent achieved A*-C grades in English and maths, and 58 per cent of these students achieved five or more A*-C grades including English and maths.
High performing subjects included maths, further maths, biology, chemistry, physics, art, drama, geography, history, ICT, music, photography, religion and philosophy, and textiles.
Principal Dr Joe Vitagliano, who is standing down before the start of the next academic year, said: “I’d like to congratulate all those students who are celebrating excellent examination grades today – these outcomes have been achieved as a consequence of their hard work and dedication.
“This year’s excellent results have come about not only because students have applied themselves diligently; they have also received unwavering help and guidance from teachers and support staff at the college, and their parents have bought strongly into the partnership that has made Midhurst Rother College an outstanding school.
“In my last duty as principal, I am not only proud to say we have improved our examination results yet again – but we have helped almost every student in the class of 2016 to go on to high quality further education or training.
“What is particularly pleasing is that many students will continue their studies at the college.”
