Children at Hollycombe School, in Milland, welcomed parents, family and friends to this year’s Harvest Assembly.
The event marked the first anniversary of Louise Pearce, who took over as headteacher a year ago.
Children from Hawkshaw reception class enjoyed their first assembly by singing songs about Dingle Dangle Scarecrow, and delighted the audience with the story of the Little Red Hen and the Giant Pumpkin.
Ashdown class delivered a presentation about the importance of shopping locally for local produce, while children from Byron class explained how harvest time is celebrated in other countries all across the world.
Older children from Meta class, who are covering World War II as part of their curriculum, gave a presentation about rationing during the war years and donations were made to Midhurst Food Bank.
This year, the primary school received a glowing Ofsted report, praising Mrs Pearce for settling quickly into her position, as well as receiving the full backing from families, staff and governors and managing to create a clear vision for improving the school, upholding her high expectations, which has enabled the whole school community to flourish.
She told The Herald: “My first year at Hollycombe has been amazing. I have loved being here and everyone has made me feel very welcome.”
•Children at Churcher’s College Junior School celebrated their Harvest Festival with Rev Will Hughes, who helped them remember the wonders of growing crops and nature itself, which is often taken for granted.
Children donated food gifts to Home Start Butser and to clients at the Liphook Day Centre.
