A TEAM of 11 students representing Rodborough Technology College, Milford, were crowned winners at the Surrey SATRO challenge.

The competition celebrates the educational charity’s 20th anniversary this year, and is open to all secondary schools and sixth form colleges in Surrey and surrounding areas.

The challenge is an initiative to promote science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects in schools, and teams are set a problem to solve within a fixed time, using only the materials provided.

The winning teams are those in each key stage group, who have been judged to have best met the criteria set for the problem.

Rodborough’s Lower School team (pictured) produced a creative and robust construction in order to complete the task and won not only the local round, but also overall in the grand final held at the American International School in Cobham.

Deputy headteacher Chris Williams said: “It was a privilege to watch the Rodborough teams work in absolute harmony and produce such outstanding results.

“All 11 should be congratulated for their achievements. It was tremendous to see our Lower School team walk away with a win in such a strong field.”
