WOOLMER Hill School has announced Clare Talbot is the new headteacher.

Chairman of governors Sue Stathers said Miss Talbot’s impact has been realised from September 2014 when she joined the Haslemere school’s staff as deputy headteacher.

She said: “Clare immersed herself in raising standards, particularly within the science department and the percentage of pupils achieving two science GCSEs A*-C in 2015 increased by over 30 per cent, putting Woolmer Hill in the top 16 per cent of schools nationally.

“This was a tribute not only to her professional knowledge but her ability to pass on this knowledge to the departmental staff.

“The governors are delighted she accepted the appointment as headteacher from January 2016 and are looking forward to continuing to work with her. We are certain her clear vision, her logical and analytical approach, backed by her knowledge, commitment and leadership abilities will enable Woolmer Hill School to go from strength to strength,” said Mrs Stathers.

Miss Talbot, who has been acting headteacher since September, said she was “delighted” and “very privileged to be taking on the head’s role at a very exciting time” and she was looking forward to working with the staff, pupils and parents to continue to drive the school forward.
