Two Farnham businesses are joining forces to boost trade as independent traders face increasingly challenging conditions in the town.

Tavola Di Famiglia Trattoria, on The Borough, and Higher Ground Kaffe, in Borelli Yard, say smaller businesses need to work together as pressures continue to mount across the hospitality sector.

The two relatively new independents will team up for a three-day food and drink pop-up from Friday, September 11, to Sunday, September 13, combining coffee and pastries with Tuscan sandwiches.

A spokesperson for Tavola said the past 12 months had “challenged” Farnham’s reputation as a town that supports independent businesses.

“Independents are not afforded many of the luxuries larger businesses are,” the spokesperson said.

They added that while the long-term aim should be to create an environment where independent businesses can thrive, the immediate pressures facing the sector have been “unequivocal”.

The businesses hope joining forces will help them attract new customers and boost trade at a difficult time.

“As two small and relatively new independents, naturally we don’t have the luxuries that many other larger businesses are afforded,” the spokesperson said.

“Through collaborating, we believe that we can be stronger together, leveraging one another’s strengths to boost trade.”

The partnership coincides with Farnham Food Month, which culminates in the town’s annual food festival, and will showcase food and drink from both businesses.
