There was an outcry in 2009 when Surrey Wildlife Trust decided a popular but unauthorised dirt bike jumps area, which had been created on land it leased from Surrey County Council, at Roborough Common, should be demolished because it was too dangerous.
More than 100 supporters, including parents as well as regular users, protested it fulfilled a real need and called for an alternative authorised area to be provided.
The trust granted a stay of execution to enable another venue to be found and a management scheme drawn up but it has taken almost three years to come to fruition.
