A HASLEMERE man is appealing for help as his stepmother needs urgent heart surgery but is facing huge fees.
Alex Nolan, who lives in Hatchetts Drive and works at Tesco in Haslemere, is urgently hoping to raise £3,575 for his stepmother Luzviminda Resumadero.
The money will go towards Luzviminda’s surgery in the Philippines.
Luzviminda has a congenital heart disease – she has had an atrial septal defect since birth which has left her with a hole in her heart which has become larger over the years. And Alex said his stepmother now needs heart surgery urgently.
“Hopefully she can have the surgery at the end of the month,” he said. “The sooner she has the surgery the better.
“The last ECG she had was three or four years ago, and her condition was treatable then with medication.
“Her condition has now taken a turn, though, and she is in desperate need of heart surgery. Her condition is now very serious.
“She has suffered from her health since birth, but things got worse in her 20s. Despite this, she always put her health problems aside and worked for her family.
“My dad Anthony is out in the Philippines with her – he was a builder over here, but we can’t afford the surgery without support.”
Alex says any donations will be greatly appreciated.
“Whatever people can donate, even if it’s only a small amount, it all helps,” he said.
“I moved to Haslemere in the summer of 2014.
“I went to college in the area and I have worked here since then – so if local people can help, that would be great.”
As well as the effect Luzviminda’s condition has had on her health, it has also affected her family financially – as Luzviminda always worked to help her family and was the main salary earner.
“Luz comes from a low-income family and they could never save or put aside money for her surgery,” said Alex.
“I have done a lot of research on the surgery Luz needs, and I have watched a doctor perform the surgery on YouTube.”
Alex is hoping to get out to the Philippines later this year to visit his father Anthony and his stepmother.
He said: “I had planned to go over to the Philippines in 2020, but then the Covid-19 pandemic happened.
“They’ve had strict lockdowns and are only just opening up again.
“My dad is over there with her and has been there for more than two years – he is doing as much as he can to help her.
“I’m hoping to get out there later this year.”
Alex has set up a GoFundMe page to raise £3,575 for his stepmother’s surgery in the Philippines.
