A NEW addition to Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution (RMBI) Hindhead care home Shannon Court is reviving happy memories for peeople with dementia.
The bespoke shelter, which was funded by the family of a resident and built and painted by staff, is not only a popular focal point, but is also used by the RMBI bus as a collection point for day trips.
Manager Magda Kilian said: “Some of our residents living with dementia often ask when the bus is coming to pick them up to go shopping.
“One lady gets distressed at times if there is no bus.
“So, we came up with the idea of creating a bus stop on Shannon Court’s driveway so we could use our RMBI bus to drive past and pick up residents.
“They also enjoy sitting in the shelter and having a chat, just as you would at a public bus stop.”
