JEREMY HUNT MP held an event at HasleWorks to thank people who have donated to his fundraising campaign for a new cancer and surgical innovation centre at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, and to formally launch the campaign in Haslemere.

Mr Hunt, along with Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust chief executive Louise Stead, and chief of surgery division John Stebbing, provided further details about the new centre.

Guests heard from resident Rod Plutheroe, who spoke about his cancer battle and the service he received from Royal Surrey.

Rod said: “I know from my own experience just how brilliant the team at Royal Surrey are. By supporting them with this new centre, this first-class team can treat more people and help give cancer sufferers the best possible chance of recovery.”

Mr Hunt said: “I have been truly humbled by the generosity of people. To date, we have raised more than £100,000 towards our initial £1 million goal.”

HasleWorks founder and Hazelhurst Trust trustee Helen Bowcock said: “We were delighted to host this event at HasleWorks, and to support Jeremy Hunt in this admirable fundraising campaign.

“The addition of the new centre will bring tremendous benefits to our community, and Matthew and I are pleased to provide a grant from the Hazelhurst Trust to kickstart the campaign in Haslemere.”
