Pulses have been racing as a summer festival and virtual bike ride has raised more than £3,300 for patient activities at a hospital in Haslemere.

A week of fun and entertainment for Holy Cross patients and their families has been hailed as a massive success.

Organisers were already gearing up for a decent final total as a 288-mile “virtual” ride from London to Paris on the static bike raised more than £2,000.

Patients, relatives, caregivers, volunteers, friends and supporters all saddled up to clock up the miles, while plenty of Haslemere firms and organisations donated prizes for a raffle.

The fundraising target also received a boost from the stalls selling handmade cards, hampers, plants and homemade jams and chutneys made by the Sisters and patients, with the final total coming in at £3,388.

“It was such a fun and enjoyable week, with so much going on for patients, caregivers and visitors,” said the hospital’s director of operations, Jo Speed.

“A huge amount of work went on behind the scenes, and the enthusiasm, organisation and sheer effort from everyone involved has been evident and so appreciated.”

She added: “It has been a real team effort and a lovely example of Holy Cross at its best – people pulling together, getting involved and creating something genuinely enjoyable for everyone.”

Events took place throughout the week in addition to fundraising activities with a Holycrufts dog show, live music, quiz, magic show, wellbeing activities and talent show among the highlights.

The week concluded with Fun Finale Friday with funfair games, fundraising stalls, a raffle, live music, a visit from Ben’s Ice Cream and a BBQ with sausages and burgers generously donated by Bidfood and Porky Whites.
