EAST Hampshire MP Damian Hinds took time out last week to sign the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment.

In doing so, Mr Hinds pledged his commitment to Holocaust Memorial Day, which took place last Wednesday; a date that marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

The Holocaust Memorial Day honours all of those murdered during the Holocaust, as well as in subsequent genocides, and pays tribute to the extraordinary work by survivors to educate people about the atrocities committed more than 70 years ago.

Mr Hinds (pictured signing the book in London last week) said: “It is still shocking to think about the scale of human suffering endured during the Holocaust and this memorial day is an important opportunity for people across East Hampshire and the rest of the country to reflect on those tragic events.

“Racism and hate crime have not gone away and the theme for this year – Don’t Stand By – reminds all of us that we have a responsibility not to be a bystander to these intolerances, and why it is vital that we continue to educate young people about the Holocaust and other acts of genocide that have happened across the world.”
