SOUTH West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt has come under fresh scrutiny this week after an investigation was launched over claims he failed to register donations from media firms.

Parliamentary standards commissioner Sir John Lyon announced the inquiry on Monday following a complaint by Labour MP Stephen McCabe.

It concerns a series of "networking events" organised by private companies between July 2009 and March 2010, when Mr Hunt and his deputy Ed Vaizey were in opposition.

Although Mr Vaizey registered a total of eight sponsored events as donations worth around £27,000, the South West Surrey MP did not declare the meetings against his name in the register.
