The Queen's Golden Jubilee clock in Alton is still awaiting refurbishment – but Alton Town Council is doing its best to solve the problem.

Mike Sanders – president of Alton Rotary Club, which presented it to the council 20 years ago – advised the council the power source it needed to disconnect to move the clock, above Alton Nails in the High Street, was likely to be a plug socket in a building formerly part of Keeping and Co solicitors.

But town clerk Leah Coney said: “The issue was that the property was commercial in the days of Keeping and Co, and has since been completely refurbished and likely re-wired when it was turned into residential accommodation – and no sign of a plug!

“We are going to see if we can look at it from the outside of the building.”
