PROTESTORS staged a demonstration at Wey Hill Fairground on Tuesday in their fight to get Waverley to rethink its plan to refurbish the free car park and introduce pay and display.

The borough council has submitted an application to the Secretary of State for common land consent for a £342,000 scheme to lay permeable blocks, Tarmacadam access routes, perimeter light columns and ticket machines to create a permanent car park with 176 spaces, split into long-term commuter spaces and short-term shopper spaces.

A protest leaflet prepared by campaign group Haslemereparking.com, the Haslemere Society, Haslemere Vision and the town's chamber of trade has been distributed urging anyone objecting to make their views known to the Secretary of State before the April 5 deadline.
