A SERVICE to mark one of the key events of the Second World War will take place in a Petersfield church this weekend.

A Battle of Britain service will begin at 7pm in St Peter’s Church this Sunday. The 1929 (Petersfield) Sqn RAFATC has invited members of the town’s Royal British Legion to attend but the service is also open to the public.

The service coincides with Battle of Britain week as the airborne conflict came to a head 83 years ago in September 1940.

The largest and most concentrated attacked against London took place on Sunday, September 15, 1940 with around 1,500 planes taking part in air battles until dusk.
