WAVERLEY stands accused of trying to derail a Localism-inspired neighbourhood plan to regenerate Weyhill.

Using new powers granted under the Localism Act, objectors banded together to found the Weyhill Neighbourhood Planning Forum in order to draw up a "vision and master plan" for the area.

Residents David O'Brien and Alan Barlow resolved to take matters into their own hands after Waverley drew up a £325,000 scheme to resurface an area of former common land used for free parking and turn it into a permanent pay and display for 130 vehicles.

Objectors backed by the Haslemere Society have protested there should be a full public consultation before the scheme for Weyhill Fairground car park is implemented as it is a missed opportunity to transform an area of commonland into a public space that could be used for the wider benefit of Weyhill.
