AVIATION pioneer and former Lynchmere resident Oswald Short (1883-1969) will enjoy a special day in his hometown, next week.
One of three brothers famous for building one of the world’s first successful twin engine aircraft in 1911, his headstone in Lynchmere Burial Ground, Lynchmere Road, Hammer, has been restored and will be officially unveiled, on Tuesday, May 16, at 1.15pm.
All are also welcome to view a special display at Camelsdale Primary School between 3.15pm and 7pm and to attend a talk on ‘The Three Short Brother’ by their great, great niece Elizabeth Walker, which will take place in the school hall from 7.15-8pm.
