SURREY County Council has axed its magazine ‘Surrey Matters’ after it was revealed more than £1 million of taxpayers’ cash has been spent into the publication since 2011.

The 20-page magazine, which is printed three times a year and distributed to almost half a million homes, was scrapped following a meeting of Surrey’s cabinet on March 28 as part of a raft of cost-cutting measures.

It is expected to save the authority around £175,000 a year and the decision follows a Freedom of Information request, which revealed £1,114,060 had been spent on the magazine since 2011.
