STORM Eunice brought down a tree on the main road between Grayswood and Haslemere last Friday (February 18).

The northbound carriageway of the A286 Grayswood Road was blocked by the fallen fir tree, just before Highercombe Road shortly before dusk.

This caused cars to cross the white lines into the path of southbound traffic approaching at speed over the hill. A ‘good Samaritan’ placed a cone in the road and sat with the car’s hazard lights flashing until the police arrived. Another fir fell across the road on Shepherd’s Hill, which was more visible and less of a risk to life.
