Nine tries – each scored by a different team member – and eight successful conversions from the boot of Nick Blumlein piled up the points, while visitors New Milton picked up a penalty and a converted try.
Petersfield made a clean catch from the restart and slipped the ball to winger George Davis, who accelerated into New Milton’s 22 where he outwitted the defence to deftly offload to sprinting fullback Tom Land who scored a converted try in the left corner.
Petersfield were found offside on seven minutes and New Milton took the three points from the penalty.
Will Matthews scored Field’s third try. The hosts broke out of their 22 and passed the ball at speed to Davis on the left wing. He avoided the visitors’ defence and passed to Matthews, who touched down. Blumlein added the extras.
New Milton had a period of possession, but Petersfield’s defence held out. The hosts broke out with a clearance kick which went deep in the visitors’ half, and New Milton knocked on. From the scrum Petersfield set up a powerful rolling maul, from which Liam Perkins dotted down for a further converted try.
A period of stalemate followed, until Petersfield regrouped around a ruck. The ball was flipped to Jackson Clark, who accelerated the final five metres to ground the ball for an unconverted try. Field led 33-3 at half-time.
Clark was yellow carded after a scrum collapsed, but with eight minutes of the second half played Field scored their sixth try. Forward Ryan Morse, who was on as a replacement for Dan Luff, sprinted to the try line to touch down. Blumlein added the extras.
A long pass from centre Greg Jansen found Davis, who rounded the defence to touch down under the posts for a converted try.
Ryan Morse and a New Milton player were then sent off by the referee after being involved in a misdemeanour.
Petersfield attempted to play their way out of their 22 with slick passing, but the ball was intercepted by New Milton and the visitors scored a converted try to make it 47-10.
Jansen scored Field’s eighth try when he looped to the right wing and scampered through to score a converted try.
The restart ball was smartly taken by Field, and debutant replacement back Sam Dawes opened his senior account when he scored under the posts for a further converted try on the full-time whistle.
Captain Momber was pleased with another big win, but was disappointed that the team were unable to communicate a number of issues with the referee. Momber praised New Milton for their sportsmanship and spirit.
