Petersfield’s final home game of the season in Regional Two South Central against Ellingham & Ringwood on Saturday was cancelled when their opposition forfeited the match with three days to go.

Petersfield had hoped to play their penultimate match of the season in front of a good crowd of spectators bolstered by those attending the past captains’ and players’ pre-match lunch, but the annual end of league season celebration had to be cancelled.

The forfeiting of the match awarded Petersfield the maximum five league points, advancing their total for the season to 62 points.

The result leaves Petersfield in sixth place in the Regional Two South Central table, just three points behind fifth-placed Tottonians.

Petersfield will finish their league campaign with a trip to Tottonians on Saturday, April 11. Should Petersfield finish the season fifth in the league they will automatically be drawn to play in the league play-offs.

Petersfield’s second team may be bottom of the league in Counties Two Hampshire, but they picked up an impressive 27-25 win at Romsey on Saturday. Petersfield surprised their hosts with a last-minute unconverted try to seal victory in a closely-fought encounter.

Petersfield Rugby Football Club (RFC) have confirmed that player/coach Liam Perkins will depart the club at the end of the 2025-26 season to take up a forwards coach role at Worthing Raiders.

Since joining Petersfield in 2023, Perkins has played a pivotal role in the club’s progression, contributing on and off the field during a highly successful period for the men’s section.

A Petersfield RFC statement said: “Everyone at Petersfield RFC would like to thank Liam for his outstanding commitment and contribution to the club, and we wish him every success in the next chapter of his coaching journey.”
