What could power and heat our homes in the future as the UK moves away from fossil fuels?

That is the question being explored at a free talk in Liphook next month, hosted by Petersfield Climate Action Network and Liphook Climate Action Network.

The ‘All-Electric Homes of the Future’ event will take place at Liphook Millennium Centre from 7pm on Thursday, September 17. Doors open at 6.30pm.

Industry expert Bean Beanland will explain how technologies including solar panels, battery storage, efficient heating, flexible energy tariffs, electric vehicle charging and home cooling could shape the way households use energy.

He will also look at the potential benefits, including lower energy bills and a smaller carbon footprint, alongside the practical challenges of installing and financing new technologies.

Mr Beanland, an associate of the Royal College of Science, has more than 17 years’ experience in energy and carbon mitigation strategy, technology selection, procurement and the installation of mechanical services and renewable technologies.

He spent eight years working with an installation contractor and has recently appeared as an expert panellist on Radio 4’s Evan Davis Heat Pump Challenge.

The evening will also provide information about ‘My Home Made Better’, a free and impartial energy advice service run by PeCAN in partnership with energy advisers at the Environment Centre.

Advisers can help homeowners understand why their property may be losing heat, investigate high energy bills and identify opportunities to access grant funding, earn money from the grid or potentially increase their property’s value.

Those attending will have the opportunity to ask questions about the technologies and how they could work in their own homes.

The event is free, but places should be booked in advance.
