A NUMBER of cars were targeted and broken into in Liphook, despite showing no signs of a forced entry or car alarms going off, earlier this month

Vehicles were “broken into” on Longmoor Road, Bircholt Road, Fairway Close, Malthouse Meadows, Headley Road and Meadow Way and several items as well as money.

Gangs now have jamming devices which prevent central locking from working properly.

A police spokesman told The Herald: “Owners are advised to lock their cars, wind up the windows and close the sunroof, even if only leaving it for a few minutes. It just takes a few seconds for items to be stolen from an unlocked car.

“Never leave valuable possessions such as handbags, laptops, phones or sat navs on show inside a vehicle, since they may tempt a potential thief to break into the car.”

Owners are also advised to fit a car alarm, use a steering wheel lock, get an immobiliser, park in well-lit areas in full public view, not leave items in glove compartments and use a garage, if they have one.

Anyone who has any information, should call Hampsihre Police on 101.
